Apple Bank for Savings is a New York area financial institution serving local retail customers and small businesses. As of 2015, it had 76 branches in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx, as well as Westchester, Suffolk, and Nassau counties. Since being chartered in 1863, as a community-based mutual savings bank called the Harlem Savings Bank, it has acquired and absorbed various other local banks. The acquisition of downtown rival Central Savings Bank prompted it to change its name to Apple Bank in May 1983 to reflect its geographic expansion. That expansion continued, with the acquisition of Eastern Savings Bank in 1986, Sag Harbor Savings Bank in 1989, and Emigrant Savings Bank from Milstein family of real estate tycoons in 2013. Its commercial mortgage lending business focuses on the local New York market. Apple Bank for Savings provides export credit and specialty finance, particularly to the aviation sector. Apple Financial Holdings, Inc. operates as a holding company for Apple Bank For Savings. MK
