Bjarke Ingels Group
Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) is an international architecture firm founded by Denmarks Bjarke Ingels in 2005. Since opening a branch office in New York City in 2010, the firm has won a number of high-profile commissions, including the redesign of Two World Trade Center to accommodate new anchor tenants News Corp and 21st Century Fox, rather than financial companies. VIA, an apartment project being developed by the Durst Organization -- located on the West Side Highway at 57th Street and is shaped like a pyramid -- was one of Ingels first New York City commissions. BIG is also designing a terraced viewing platform at Pier 6 of Brooklyn Bridge Park, in collaboration with six other design firms. Another BIG design expected to make an imprint on lower Manhattan is an eight-mile long barrier-and-green space to protect coastline of Manhattan lower half against hurricanes. -MK
