The Blackstone Group is a private equity firm. Jonathan Gray leads the firm's real estate division, which was established in 1991. With approximately $81 billion in assets under management, the division is known for the size of the transactions is it capable of executing and the speed with which it is capable of executing them. In April 2015, the firm partnered with Wells Fargo to purchase most of the assets of GE Capital Real Estate in a transaction valued at approximately $23 billion, and in 2007, Blackstone bought Sam Zell's Equity Office Properties for $39 billion. Its real estate portfolio includes hotel, office, retail, industrial and residential properties in the US, Europe, Asia and Latin America. It owns the Hilton chain of hotels, Invitation Homes (one of the largest owners of single-family houses in the United States), shopping malls in China and office buildings in cities across the world.
