DTZ was a global, privately owned commercial real estate firm based in Chicago with about 28,000 employees that has roots going back hundreds of years but in late 2014 went private and bulked up with the acquisition of the U.S. based Cassidy Turley.

Private equity firm TPG Capital along with PAG Asia Capital and Ontario Teachers Pension Plan purchased DTZ from the Australian public, commercial property firm UGL for about $1.1 billion and then merged that with Cassidy Turley, which was acquired for about $557 million.

In New York, the firms clients included Coty, Random House, LVMH, City Harvest and Guggenheim Partners. The addresses where the firm has worked major deals include the commercial condo at 40 Broad Street; the Empire State Building; 399 Park Avenue; and 150 East 42nd Street. The firm also produced reams of data, including a quarterly Manhattan office market report.

Cassidy Turley was created in 2008 out of the merger of four different firms nationwide, including Colliers ABR in New York. Its New York region president is Peter Hennessy and its New York region managing principal is Joseph Swingle.
