Ian Schrager Company is a hotel and real estate development firm. Founded in 2005 by infamous boutique hotel developer Ian Schrager (of nightclub Studio 54 and tax evasion fame), the firm has developed or refurnished some of the most posh hotels in New York City, including the Gramercy Park Hotel (which it has since sold). The company also built 40 Bond and residential property at 50 Gramercy Park North. Six years after opening its doors, Ian Schrager Company created the new brand PUBLIC Hotels, which debuted in 2011 with the PUBLIC Chicago (which opened with a Studio 54-themed party). The company has since partnered with Marriott International on EDISON Hotels, which are located in London, Istanbul, Times Square, and Miami Beach, with plans for several others around the globe. In 2012 the firm filed a lawsuit against its former investment partners, alleging they failed to pay back Schrager on a $1 million loan for the Gramercy Park Hotel. The lawsuit led to an acrimonious split and the divestment of Schragers interest in the hotel.
