Icon Realty Management

Icon Realty Management is a real estate management company with more than 1,800 apartment units throughout New York City, primarily on the Upper and Lower East Side and in Greenwich Village. Owned by Terrence Lowenberg and Todd Cohen, the company has a patchy reputation as a landlord. In 2008, rent-stabilized tenants in the East Village accused Icon of harassment when the company repeatedly tried to get them to leave their apartments. In 2010, Icon was sued over allegations of fraud related to the company’s ownership of Gem Hotel in Chelsea. In 2015, Icon had the ignominy of making the Urban Homesteading Assistance Board’s worst-landlords list. That same year, Icon was sued for wrongful eviction after it attempted to kick out the restaurant at one of its East Village properties destroyed by a gas explosion. On the Upper East Side, Icon has bought up blocks of properties in the 80s (and evicted longtime restaurants there to redevelop the buildings).
