Island Capital Group is a New York City-based real estate merchant bank. The bank was founded in 2003 by Andrew Farkas, who is currently its chairman and CEO. Island Capital controls a number of real estate services companies, including Applied Technology & Management and Anubis Securities, as well as one of the countrys largest commercial loan servicers, C-III Capital Partners. The bank also owns Island Global Yaching, which builds and manages luxury marinas and yachting lifestyle destinations globally. Island Capitals subsidiary ICG Realty offers brokerage and real estate consulting services for commercial real estate. Island Capital has followed the game plan Farkas used while at brokerage Insignia Financial Group, by going after distressed and undervalued assets and then wading into more sophisticated deals. Through C-III Capital Partners, the banks has purchased significant stakes in Grubb & Ellis (which it bought in 2011 along with Colony Capital) and special loan servicer Centerline Holding in 2010.
