Muss Development
Muss Development is one of the most active and largest real estate development firms in New York City, with more than 10 million square feet in its portfolio.
It dates from 1906, when founder Isaac Muss began constructing residential projects in the outer-boroughs. His firm soon moved into commercial projects as well, though Muss is still known for being a big player in residential beyond Manhattan.
Notable projects over the last century-plus have included the first Class A office building in Flushing, Queens, dubbed Flushing Plaza; the Oceana Condominium and Club, a 15-building project in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn; and Princes Point, a 23-acre, 120-home waterfront development in Staten Island. Muss has also dabbled in parking-garage construction and ownership.
Many of these projects Muss constructs and markets itself, selling the condos and renting the office space or apartments. And the firm has worked Manhattan over the years, repositioning the office building at 64 West 48th Street and selling a Third Avenue development site for nearly $70 million, among other projects and trades.
Joshua Muss, Isaacs grandson, leads the firm as president. It is headquartered at 118-35 Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills, Queens. -TA
