Raber Enterprises is a real estate development and management company. Raber, which is run by Lance Steinberg, has had a particular focus on hotel construction. The firm also manages properties, including a dozen in Chinatown. In 2013 Raber began development of mixed-use property on a site in the Garment District, which the firm purchased for $33 million from Massey Knakal. That same year Raber entered into talks with InterContinental Hotels Group, which sought to bring a Crown Plaza hotel to a parcel of land on 36th Street, which Raber had bought for $33 million in 2012. The talks panned out as in 2014 Raber broke ground on the hotel, the second Crown Plaza in Manhattan (and just a few blocks from the first site in Times Square). In 2015 Raber made headlines, but this time for bad news: a crane collapsed at the construction site of its Even Hotel on East 44th Street, killing one worker.
