Trinity Real Estate is the real estate arm of Trinity Church in New York City. The Episcopal parish owns millions of square feet of commercial space and ground leases in Manhattan because a lucky break of history. In 1705, Queen Anne of England granted the church the 215 acres of land that became the basis for the portfolio. The properties of Trinity Real Estate include One Hudson Square, 200 Hudson Square and 137 Varick Street. As of 2015, Trinity was in the process of selling of many of its holdings. Its portfolio, which covered what was once a manufacturing hub, was plagued by high vacancy rates as manufacturing jobs disappeared in the 1970s and 1980s. In the early 2000s, the church's real estate arm embarked on a renovation of the buildings to make them more appealing to technology, media and nonprofit tenants.
