WeWork

WeWork is a provider of shared office space and employer services, founded by Adam Neumann and Miguel McKelvey in Soho in 2010. The pair previously started GreenDesk, a similar space provider, based in Brooklyn and having a stated focus on ecological sustainability. WeWork office space, which comes with complimentary access to a variety of community areas and amenities, attracts freelancers and companies alike, especially those in tech. The firm counts start-ups like HackHands and Fitocracy among its successful "coworking" tenants. By June 2015, WeWork had a total valuation of roughly $10 billion after receiving a $5 billion valuation just six months before. The valuation made WeWork the third most valuable office landlord in the country, more than half the size of the largest, Boston Properties, whose co-founder Mort Zuckerman is also one of WeWork's best-known investors. The company's business model is not built on traditional building ownership, as WeWork leases space from other landlords for its thousands of co-workers in over 40 locations across the United States. A handful of locations abroad include three in co-founder Neumann's native Israel.
