Zillow is an searchable online database of real estate listings and statistics for markets nationwide. It was launched in early 2006 by two former Microsoft executives, Rich Barton and Lloyd Frink (who both also founded Expedia), and quickly became one of the biggest sites of its kind in the U.S.

A major presence in New York, however, eluded Zillow for its first several years. Then, in August 2013, the Seattle-based firm acquired Streeteasy, the New York City online database, for $50 million. Zillow redesigned Streeteasy in early 2014, and rid it of fees for premium services.
