Alicia Hurley is the vice president of government affairs and community engagement at New York University, where she is responsible for matters related to government funding and regulations and land-use and zoning. She has served in her current role since 2005. Hurley worked on engaging with government officials and the community about the NYU 2031 plan to expand the universitys footprint in Greenwich Village by two million square feet, which has drawn the ire of community activist, local residents, and NYU faculty, who live in nearby, university-owned housing. Hurley received a BA from the University of Colorado. In 1998, she received an MA in higher education administration from NYU, and in 2003, she received a PhD from NYU in the same discipline.
