Brian Shatz is managing principal and co-founder of Madison Realty, a real estate investment and management firm in New York. In 2004, Shatz founded the company with Joshua Zegen, his former roommate at Brandeis University. Prior to forming Madison Realty Capital and its affiliate Silverstone Properties, Shatz began his career at the BlackRock investment corporation, and later went on to Alfa Capital and the Bluegrass Growth Fund.
Some of Madison's largest transactions include the acquisition and construction loans for a seven-story mixed-use Elmhurst, Queens, development for $70 million. The development is a conversion of the former Saint John's Hospital. In December 2014, Madison announced an $89 million multifamily property development in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. The development is a 27,500-square-foot 80/20 housing project. Also in 2014, Madison accumulated a series of properties in Harlem that now constitute an an entire city block on Frederick Douglass Boulevard between 111th and 112th Streets, all owned by the firm.
