Carl Schwartz is a New York City-based lawyer and a partner at Richmond, Virginia-based law firm Hunton & Williams LLP. As of 2016, he served as co-head of Hunton & Williams’ global real estate practice. His clients include property owners and developers, tenants, REITs, private equity funds, and institutional lenders. These have included the New York Yankees, DTH Capital, World-Wide Group, Savanna, and Tishman Speyer. He advises on matters such as real estate acquisitions, dispositions, developments, financings, workouts, restructurings, joint ventures, mortgage, mezzanine, and construction financings, and significant commercial lease transactions. Before joining Hunton, Schwartz worked at rival law firm Herrick Feinstein, where he headed the real estate practice, and before going into real estate, he worked as an entertainment lawyer. Schwartz is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Real Estate New York Editorial Advisory Board. He received a JD from Boston College Law School in 1979 and a BS from Union College in 1976. Outside business hours, Schwartz plays racquetball. He is a musician who plays bass guitar in a rock band and organizes a charity concert featuring real estate executives, called Real Estate Rockers for Relief. He lives on West 88th Street. He and his wife have four adult children, twins Emily and Andrew, and two older sons, Brett and Casey. Schwartz grew up in Yonkers. –MK
