Doug Shorenstein

Chairman and CEO
Shorenstein Properties
235 Montgomery Street
New York, NY 94104
415.772.7000

In 1995, the late Doug Shorenstein took over the company that his father, Walter Shorenstein, founded just after World War II (Walter died in 2010). The San Francisco-based, privately held Shorenstein Properties was then, as it remains today, a major commercial landlord with 26.2 million square feet of holdings nationwide.

In New York City, Shorenstein Properties owns 477 Madison Avenue, a 24-story, 326,589-square-foot, Class A office building with street-level retail, and 850 Third Avenue, a 21-story, 613,664-square-foot Class A office building designed by Emery Roth and Sons (they also designed the Empire State Building). Shorenstein was famously one of the two sellers of the 2.3 million-square-foot Starrett-Lehigh Building in West Chelsea in 2011 for $920 million. It was one of the first big building trades coming out of the Great Recession.

Prior to joining his fathers firm in 1983, Doug Shorenstein worked at a real estate attorney at Shearman & Sterling LLP in New York in its real estate group.

He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and earned a law degree from the University of Californias Hastings College of Law.

In November of 2015, Shorenstein died at the age of 60 after a battle with cancer.
