Eric Schneiderman is the attorney general of New York State, first elected in 2010 after several years in the state Senate representing parts of Manhattan and the Bronx.
As the states top law enforcement official, Schneiderman has been involved in various efforts and controversies related to real estate in New York City. He launched a major investigation into home-rental site Airbnb in 2013, the same year he sued developer Donald Trump over his allegations his Trump University operated as a bait-and-switch scheme.
Schneidermans office is also the clearinghouse for all new condo and co-op developments, which has placed him in the position of vetoing certain plans and even barring developers from building in the city. Schneiderman has also been involved in easing the number of foreclosures in the city and in monitoring the disbursement of Superstorm Sandy relief monies.
Schneiderman was born in December 1954 in New York City.
