    Jane Goldman runs the day-to-day operations of Solil Management, the privately held firm that controls the more than $6 billion New York City real estate empire amassed by her father Sol Goldman, who died in 1987.

    This empire includes more than 345 buildings in New York City, most of them in Manhattan and almost all acquired by Goldman. A portion of the properties are leased to ground tenants through long-term leaseholds, while others are owned outright by Solil corporate entities. The properties include every conceivable type of New York property, from mixed-use to multifamily to gas stations.

    Jane Goldman, like the company she runs, is notoriously private by the flashy standards of Gotham real estate. During a rare 2008 interview, however, she talked about her father's techniques for buying buildings (oftentimes over the phone, as if he were trading stocks), and his work habits (he believed something was wrong with you if you worked on weekends).

    She also talked about the very public feud that ensued between Goldman's estranged wife, Lillian, Jane's mother. Lillian's share of Goldman's estate proved contentious before and after his death, with Jane and her two sisters swearing affidavits supporting their father against their mother's claims to a larger share. The family finally settled, with Lillian getting one-third (she died in 2002).

    A brother, Allan Goldman, remains an adviser to Jane Goldman. Their two sisters are not actively involved in Solil Management.

    Under Jane Goldman, Solil Management has become more aggressive about its leasehold terms, sometimes pressing long-term tenants to pay off violations or for upkeep before a lease will be recertified. This has led to legal disputes with some tenants, including leaseholders who signed originally with her father.
