Jonathan J. Marvel is the principal and founder of New York City-based design firm Marvel Architects. He is also the co-founder, with Robert Rogers, of Rogers Marvel Architects. Rogers and Marvel split their firm in two in 2013, resulting in the founding of Marvel Architects and Rogers Partners. Marvel is the son of architect Thomas Marvel and grew up in San Jan, Puerto Rico. The family has roots in Cuba. He got his start working as an architect under Richard Meier. The design portfolio of his new firm, Marvel Architects, includes St. Ann’s Warehouse and Pierhouse on Furman Street and 1 Hotel, both in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Marvel is a trustee of the Isamu Noguchi Museum, the Buckminster Fuller Institute, and the Van Alen Institute. He lives in a townhouse in Brooklyn. –MK

Marvel’s late father, Thomas Marvel, ran his own architecture firm in Puerto Rico â€' Marvel & Marchand Architects.
