Joseph Moinian is the founder, chairman and CEO of the Moinian Group, a large privately held development and ownership firm based in New York City.

His firm’s holdings in the city have included the office tower at 1775 Broadway, the W New York Downtown Hotel and Residences, the luxury rental Dwell95, the office building at 3 Columbus Circle, and 3 Hudson Boulevard, part of the Hudson Yards development. All totaled, the firm has about $10 billion in assets nationwide.

Moinian, however, faced significant financing problems after the real estate crash in 2008, having taken out highly leveraged loans during the boom years with little of his own equity.

Moinian got his business start in the garment trade, turning to real estate in earnest in the early 1990s. -TA
