Karl Fischer is a Hungarian-born Canadian Architect. He is known for a number of completed projects in Williamsburg, Brooklyn such as the Gretch Building luxury condo conversion, 20, 30, & 50 Bayard Street on the southern edge of McCarren Park, Park Plaza and Schaefer Landing on the East River waterfront. Fischer has attracted much negative attention for his architectural style, once described as glass-curtained boxes flecked with grim brick or concrete. In response to critics Fischer has said Many people say they recognize my style of architecture personally, I dont feel I have one. He has designed more than 300 buildings in Manhattan and Brooklyn and is said to be popular with developers for his ability to work quickly and economically.

Many of Fischers projects involve building at the site of former neighborhood landmarks, such the Gretch Guitar Factory (now the Gretch Building), the Meecker Flea Market (now 88 Richardson Street) and the site of the Schaefer Brewery (now Schaefer Landing). -WP
