In 1975, Nick Lembo started Monadnock Development, general contracting and construction management firm that has now built more than 13,000 housing units in the New York City area.
The firm is perhaps best-known in the city proper as the construction muscle and know-how behind luxury developments such as 1 John Street, 520 West 23rd Street, the Harrison on the Upper East Side, and the Hunters Point complex on the Queens waterfront. Monadnock can handle projects of up to $250 million in construction cost. The firm also handles affordable-housing and assisted-living projects; and has carved a bit of a niche locally developing some of New Yorks first micro-units.
Lembo, moreover, launched Capsys Corp. in 1995 in the Brooklyn Navy Yard to create factory-built modular buildings. It has since manufactured more than 2 million square feet of modular housing, hotels and mid-rise office buildings.
He earned an architecture degree from Cornell. -TA
