Ricardo Scofidio is a New York City-based architect and one of the two founding partners of Diller Scofidio + Renfro. He is married to Elizabeth Diller, with whom he co-founded their firm in 1979. After nearly two decades of designing conceptual art and sets for dance performances, Diller and Scofidio won a MacArthur Foundation fellowship, known as a “genius grant”, in 1999. Their firm has won a number of high profile commissions in recent years. Scofidio was a professor of architecture at Cooper Union from 1965 to 1979, where he met Diller, a student at the school. In the mid-1970s, he was working as a partner at a Manhattan architecture firm. Scofidio, a native New Yorker born in 1935 to a family of musicians, attended the Cooper Union School of Architecture from 1952 to 1955, but received an M.Arch from Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in 1960. He was four children from a previous marriage. –MK
