The Real Deal New York

Roy Kim is a new development and marketing professional. He joined Douglas Elliman in May, 2015, as chief creative officer. Before that, he was head of the new development wing at Compass, a two-year-old residential brokerage in New York City. The group specialized in helping clients research, design and developas well as market and selltheir new real estate projects, starting well before they actually break ground.

As of early 2015, Compass stable of exclusive new developments was sparse: only five, including include the Arthur in Chelsea; Seven Harrison in Tribeca; and 152 Elizabeth Street in Nolita. Kim, who joined the firm in late 2014, is expected to build it up, though.

He should know how. Immediately prior to joining Compass, Kim was a senior vice president at Extell Development, playing a major design and marketing role in the companys many high-profile projects, including One57, the Carlton House, the Lucida, The Aldyn, One Riverside Park and the International Gem Tower. Before Extell, Kim worked in a similar role at the Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group.

Kim earned a masters in architecture from the University of British Columbia and has taught in the real estate masters program at Columbia. -TA
