Saul B. Katz is president of real estate investment firm Sterling Equities, which he co-founded in 1972 with brother-in-law Fred Wilpon. The firm began buy developing townhomes in Westchester County, and then. These days, Katz helps oversee the real estate, consulting, and financial arms of his firm, though the firms various real estate funds have taken hits in recent years. Katz was also involved in the imbroglio over his firms investment with Bernie Madoff, though he denied knowing about the fraud until it was revealed publicly. Katz is also president of the New York Mets, in which Sterling first invested in 1980 and more than twenty years later bought outright, as well as the teams minor league affiliate the Brooklyn Cyclones. Katz is on the board of SportsNet, a regional sports television network he helped found in 2006, as well as the board of trustees of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. Katz, who received his accounting degree from Brooklyn College, is also honorary governor of the Brooklyn College Foundation.
