2 World Trade Center

200 Greenwich Street
New York, NY 10006
Office, Leasing/Rental

2 World Trade Center, also known as Two World Trade Center, 2WTC, and by its address, 200 Greenwich Street, is an under-construction skyscraper at the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan. The property is being developed by Silverstein Properties and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and will be located across the street from where the original Twin Towers once stood, before being destroyed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The project is years behind a preliminary rebuilding plan. That's because the global financial crisis and increased government regulation of the banking industry has reduced financial service firmsÍ demand for office space. As of 2015, the office tower was tentatively scheduled for completion in 2020. Danish architect Bjarke Ingels and his namesake firm, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), redesigned the building in 2014, incorporating the 2013, already-built foundation from a previous design for the building. That design, by London-based Foster and Partners, had been abandoned as not economically viable. IngelÍs redesign caters to media and creative industries tenants, rather than the finance industry FosterÍs design had anticipated would occupy the skyscraper. Rupert MurdochÍs two companies, News Corp. and 21st Century Fox, have agreed to lease the bottom half of the building, which will be 1270 feet tall. IngelÍs reinterpretation repeats the cantilevered, Jazz Age ziggurat architectural style that has become popular in neighboring Tribeca. _MK
