This 72-story tower in Manhattan's Financial District is one of the most recognizable buildings on Wall Street. Built in 1931 and designed by famed architects H. Craig Severance and Yasuo Matsui, it was once the world's tallest building. Today it is one of the crown jewels of Donald Trump's portfolio.

Over the years, the building has been a lightning rod, almost literally. It was hit by a U.S. Coast Guard plane in 1946. It was owned once by ousted Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos. In Trump bought it in 1995 for an unknown price through a complex lease. He renamed it the Trump Building, with initial plans to have it be mixed-use. It has remained entirely commercial, however, and has been given designated landmark status by New York City.

George Ross, Trump's senior counsel, has called the deal "the best I've seen," but Trump has had to reposition the tower twice, offering up low-rent leases and other incentives to draw in tenants. The building has suffered years of vacancy, but over time Trump has put more than $200 million into the tower. He hoped to sell it in 2003, but he found no takers. Today it is home to a number of financial services firms, as well as corporate offices for Duane Reade and other companies.
