The landmarked Manufacturers Trust Company Building, at the southwest corner of 43rd Street and Fifth Avenue, was remodeled in 2011-2012 to host the U.S. flagship store of Canadian retailer Joe Fresh. Preservationists filed a lawsuit to force owner Vornado Realty Trust to keep two Harry Bertoia sculptures in the glass-and-aluminum five-story building. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the architectural firm that originally designed the building, also handled the renovation.
Vornado acquired the property, with 20,234 square feet of retail space, for $57 million in October 2010.
