    656 Sixth Avenue, also known as The Limelight, is a brownstone building in Chelsea, completed as a church in 1845 and deconsecrated in the 1970s. The landmarked 30,000-square-foot Sixth Avenue venue at the corner of 20th Street has housed a drug rehabilitation program, then from 1983 to 2007, a nightclub in various guises.

    In 1996, Ashkenazy Acquisition, a New York City-based firm that invests in retail and office real estate, took a stake in the property. In 2001, Ashkenazy then gained full control of it when it bought the remaining stake in bankruptcy court for $3.2 million. In 2010, the firm re-opened the building as a boutique shopping mall called Limelight Marketplace. The marketplace, developed by Jack Menashe, who leased the space from Ashkenazy, struggled to retain tenants. Ashkenazy scrapped Menashes business model in May 2014 and converted it into a gym with a nightclub vibe. -MK
