9 Dekalb Avenue, also known as the Dime Savings Bank of New York, is a building in downtown Brooklyn, located at the intersection of Albee Place and Fulton Street, and erected in 1908. The classical-style building designed by architects Louis Mowbray and Justin Uffinger was designated a landmark in 1994. The temple-like structure incorporates both Greek and Roman architecture elements and is topped with a domed roof. Its ornate interiors employ repeated images of the dime coin, after which the original bank tenant was named, and its exterior features a frieze of human figures personifying thrift, industry, and prosperity. In August 2015, JDS Development Group and The Chetrit Group said they would buy the former bank headquarters for $90 million from JPMorgan Chase. The deal would enable them to build a residential skyscraper next to the building, as tall as the Empire State Building, at 340 Flatbush Avenue Extension thanks to the bank siteÍs 300,000 square feet of development rights. The buildingÍs proximity to the massive, under-construction City Point development made it that much more attractive. The Chase bank branch that used to occupy the marble-clad and columned structure has moved to a new retail space across the street. _MK
