Chinatown

Chinatown
New York, NY 10013

Chinatown is a neighborhood in lower Manhattan, whose residents are predominantly Chinese or Chinese-American. Its borders, more porous than other New York City neighborhoods, are Grand Street, Chambers Street, East Broadway, Allen Street, and Lafayette. Contemporary redevelopment in Chinatown has included the 61-unit Hester Gardens, the 27-unit 129 Lafayette Street, and the 23-unit 123 Baxter Street. The rising prices of Manhattan real estate and rising rents have made it unaffordable for more recent and poorer Chinese immigrants, who are moving into other Chinese enclaves in the New York area. _TA
