The Chrysler Building at 405 Lexington Avenue is a 1930 Art Deco style skyscraper in the Turtle Bay area of Manhattan, and at 1,046 feet tall, the former tallest building in the world. The skyscraper contains 1,195,000-square-feet.

The building was designed for William P. Chrysler by architect William Van Allen. The structure is renowned for its silvery stainless steel crown at its top, which features highly intricate ornamentation in a sunburst pattern. The Chrysler Building is currently majority owned by Abu Dhabi Investment Council, while the land is still owned by the college Cooper Union. Abu Dhabi Investment Council bought their 90% stake in the building from Tishman Speyer and a group of German investors for $800 million in 2008. However, Tishman Speyer continues to manage the property.

The Chrysler Building was only ever the tallest building in world for 11 months, at which time it lost out to the 1,250-foot Empire State Building in 1931.
