Court House Apartments

211 Atlantic Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11201
Residential, Sales, Leasing/Rental, Condo

The 321-unit Court House Apartments at 125 Court Street in downtown Brooklyn is perhaps most famous for a series of legal and public-relations wrangling between its developer-owner, Two Trees Management, and tenants, who have alleged terrible living conditions such as excessive bold, buckling floors and broken elevators that routinely trap people (including a New York Post reporter once dispatched to investigate the situation).

For its part, Two Trees has called the allegations baseless. They may stem from the firms rent hikes. Some of the tenants, many of whom are rent-stabilized, claim their monthly costs have shot up. One tenant, for instance, said his rent went from $3,900 to $6,600 over four years.

Two Trees, most famous for building the Brooklyn neighborhood of Dumbo pretty much from scratch, finished developing the Court House Apartments in 2004 at the nexus of Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Heights. The legal back-and-forth started about eight years later.
