Greenwich Village

Greenwich Village
New York, NY 10002
Residential, Multifamily

Greenwich Village, also known as the Village, is a neighborhood in lower Manhattan. It is bounded by Broadway, the North River, Houston Street, and 14th Street, and is roughly centered on Washington Square Park. The West Village, the historic townhouse subsection of the neighborhood, contains narrow, tree-lined streets that intersect at odd angles and do not conform to the grid pattern of the rest of Manhattan. Since the early 2000s, construction in the Village has been relegated to the far west of the neighborhood and included properties such as the Richard Meier-designed towers on Perry Street and Superior Ink on West 12th Street. Townhouses in the historic part of the neighborhood command prices north of $10 million. New York University is one of the dominant landlords in the Village, where the buildings of its urban campus are scattered, and the schoolÍs expansion plans are not popular with neighborhood preservationists. -GB

For example, the townhouse at 20 East 10th Street â€' No. 8 on TRD’s list â€' has spent 606 days on the market at $24.99 million, because the owner had been on the fence about selling it, said Sotheby’s Stephen McRae, who shares the listing with Sotheby’s colleague Debbie Korb.
