Pacific Park (Atlantic Yards)

Pacific Park
Brooklyn, NY 11231
Retail, Residential, Sales, Leasing/Rental, Condo

Pacific Park, formerly known as Atlantic Yards, is an in-progress mixed-use commercial and residential development in Brooklyn on the site of a Long Island Rail Road train yard. The multi-billion-dollar development, which is spearheaded by Forest City Ratner, has been plagued by legal challenges to its use of eminent domain and by lack of financing. To secure capital and move ahead with construction, the developer entered into a partnership with a subsidiary of Chinese development company Greenland Holding Group. Upon completion, Pacific Park will spread over 22 acres where Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene, Prospect Heights, and Park Slope meet. The development consists of a sports arena, Barclays Center, completed in 2012, where the NBAÍs Brooklyn Nets play, and 16 residential and commercial towers. Construction of one of these, B2 BKLYN, a 32-story residential building constructed out of pre-fabricated modular parts, has been hampered by water damage, misaligned modules, and a dispute between Forest City Ratner and Sweden-based contractor Skanska. Despite construction delays, Corcoran Sunshine began marketing units at another one of the Pacific Park buildings, 550 Vanderbilt, in June 2015. -TA & WP
