Park Slope

Park Slope
Brooklyn, NY 11215
Retail, Residential, Sales, Leasing/Rental, Condo

Park Slope is a neighborhood in northwest Brooklyn, bounded by Prospect Park, Fourth Avenue, Flatbush Avenue, and 15th Street. It is known for its stock of brownstone-clad townhouses and for being family friendly. A large part of the neighborhood, developed over a hundred years ago as suburban housing for New York merchants and bankers, has been designated a historic district. As such, new development is concentrated on formerly industrial Fourth Avenue. The neighborhoodÍs two retail corridors run along Seventh and Fifth Avenues. The neighborhood takes its name from topography. The land on which it is located slopes downward from Prospect Park to Fourth Avenue and the higher ground closer to the park has perceptibly better air quality. In the last decade, skyrocketing Park Slope housing prices has prompted brokers to lump adjacent neighborhood into a greater Park Slope. These include South Slope, Prospect Heights, Windsor Terrace, Gowanus, and Greenwood Heights. -GB

The three-story carriage house at 165 Columbia Heights sold for $9.8 million in December, making it the most expensive sale of the month, according to data provided by Property Shark. The $5 million renovation included a third-story addition that added a master bedroom and roof terrace, both of which are hidden from street view to maintain the townhouse's restored historic brick facade.
