Red Hook is quietly on the rise again — slowly. Gone are its days as an industrial center and unlikely is its future as a port, but here to stay is the possibility that Red Hook could join other western Brooklyn neighborhoods as a haven for fresh development. New retail is already headed to the neighborhood — an Ikea and a Fairway are planned — and some developers see opportunities for new residential construction, including million-dollar condos. more [NYT]
