The stretch of Fifth Avenue from 42nd Street to 49th Street is shedding some of its airline ticket offices, fast-food outlets, faux-antiques stores, and souvenir shops only a tourist could fall for in favor of mid-price fashion retailers and big-box stores. Cheap rents — for Fifth Avenue, at least — are drawing the likes of Best Buy, which is moving into a space at East 44th Street that had been vacant for many months. more [NYT]
