Suburbanites drive pied-a-terre sales

Sales of pieds-a-terre in Manhattan are booming and are being driven by, brokers say, an unlikely source: middle-aged suburbanites. The number of Manhattan apartments used as second homes increased from 21,640 in 2000 to 30,780 in 2004, according to federal statistics. more [NYT]
