Mayor, comptroller: Housing market softening

At two separate events on Monday, Mayor Bloomberg and city Comptroller William Thompson both said the New York housing market is starting to head south. They said this downward trend is especially relevant to the city’s coffers because it’s the property transfer taxes that have been responsible for much of the $3.3 billion budget surplus for the current fiscal year. more [Metro]
