Manhattan housing market jumps in first quarter

Just when New York thought it was out of the boom market, the numbers pull it back in. The median sales price and the average price per square foot for Manhattan apartments set all-time records during the first quarter of 2006, according to a report released Tuesday morning. The median sales price was $825,000 in the first quarter, up 8.6 percent from the fourth quarter of 2005, and the price per square foot was $1,004, up $2, on average, from the quarter before, according to appraiser Miller Samuel, which issued a market report for brokerage Prudential Douglas Elliman. more By Tom Acitelli
