From blight to bright in the South Bronx

Once a national symbol of urban blight, a vacant lot in the South Bronx will now become a sign of the fresh development in the area. Groundbreaking is scheduled Wednesday for a $45 million, 174-unit housing complex for low-income families on a vacant lot at Louis Nine Boulevard and Intervale Avenue. The Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation, the non-profit developer behind the new complex, plans to build it green. more [NYT]
