Historic Queens building doomed

Long Island City’s Hackett Building is scheduled to be demolished this month to make way for condominiums. The building was Queens’s Borough Hall from 1898 to 1916. Preservationists called upon the Landmarks Preservation Commission to save the building, but the LPC determined the structure had been too compromised by various retail tenants to be considered a candidate for landmarking. more [NYDN]
