City pays big, and more, for stadiums

Mayor Bloomberg’s preliminary capital budget showed marked increases in city funding for the new stadiums being built by the Nets, Mets and Yankees. According to the budget, city capital funding on these projects is now pegged at $586 million all together, a jump from the $360 million originally allotted for the sports facilities. Funding for the Atlantic Yards Nets arena has risen from $100 million to $205 million; for the new Yankee stadium, it’s gone from $160 million to $209 million; and $172 million is now earmarked for the Mets stadium, up from $92 million. more [Voice]
