Spitzer weighs in on Starrett City

Gov. Eliot Spitzer has told aides he wants Brooklyn’s Starrett City to remain an affordable housing complex after it is sold. The owners of the 5,881-apartment complex hope to sell it for more than $1 billion, and tenants and local politicians are concerned that a new owner will hike rents and drop out of the state’s Mitchell-Lama program. The state holds Starrett’s $234.4 million mortgage, and it has the power to reject prospective owners. more [NYT]
