Business that operate out of Red Hook’s container port are protesting the city’s plan to build a cruise terminal, beer garden and marina on a waterfront site that includes the port. The city expects the container port to close when its lease runs out at the end of March, but American Stevedoring Inc., which runs piers 7-10 at the port, says it will not leave. A spokesman for the company said the Red Hook redevelopment project will aid New Jersey’s maritime business at the expense of New York workers. more [Metro]
