On his weekly radio show this morning, Mayor Bloomberg expressed concern about Clipper Equities’ $1.3 billion purchase of Starrett City. Bloomberg said the deal was different from last year’s $5.4 billion sale of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village because Stuy Town’s new owner, Tishman Speyer, is a reputable landlord. This is in contrast to Clipper Equities – a partnership led by Sam Levinson and David Bistricer – which has a history of violations, said the mayor. “There are questions about this landlord and some of the plans that they have to build other things there,” he said.
