The Bloomberg administration is committing $45 million a year to promoting tourism to New York City through its marketing arm, NYC & Company, in an effort to bring 50 million tourists to the city by 2015. NYC & Company has 1,900 dues-paying members, most of whom represent travel and tourism companies. In the past, the members have heavily influenced the city’s tourism campaigns, but their dues will now only represent about 10 percent of NYC & Company’s annual budget. “Given the amount that the city is now contributing, a tilting toward more of a public-private partnership is warranted,” said deputy mayor Dan Doctoroff. more [NYT]
