Comptroller Bill Thompson said the city is investing around $600 million in pension funds in the maintenance and creation of affordable housing. Thompson, who backed a tenant group that sought to buy Stuy Town, said the city would have invested pension funds in that deal, too. Pension funds that would have been funneled into Stuy Town were only pegged to commercial projects, said Thompson, because “You try to create an opt-out or ‘we’re not going to let you embarrass us’ type of clause.
