NYU building Village power plant

New York University said it would build a power plant that will sit under Mercer Street, despite protests from community groups that say the plant will destroy trees on the block and cause construction disturbances for a few years. The local community board approved the plans last week. The plant is part of the university’s “Green Action Plan,” which will use recaptured heat to generate electricity.
